Contacting your local MP to raise concerns about the Government’s 10-Year Health Plan is more important than ever. Rebuild General Practice is working to connect with parliamentarians to ensure general practice is protected and strengthened as reforms to the wider NHS are rolled out.

As a constituent, your MP will want to hear your perspective on how the Plan could affect patients and practices in their area. It’s also a chance to make the case for general practice on a national scale – highlighting why investment, infrastructure, and support for GPs must be at the heart of any long-term vision for the NHS.

Below you will find a template email, which you can copy and paste and send. All you have to do is find your MP and constituency and amend accordingly.

Subject: 10-Year Health Plan – what it means for general practice in [Constituency]

Dear [name of your MP],

I am writing to you as a local GP in your constituency, on behalf of the Rebuild General Practice campaign – a GP-led grassroots movement calling for a properly resourced plan to protect and strengthen general practice.

Last week, the Government published its long-awaited 10-Year Health Plan for England. While it sets out a bold vision to shift NHS care into communities, prioritise prevention, and invest in digital delivery, the plan offers little in the way of detail or funding for general practice.

You will have heard on the doorstep how difficult it is for many patients to access a GP. But GPs aren’t the problem – we’re the solution. If the Government wants to deliver more community-based care, it must invest in the foundations.

The Plan makes clear that GPs are expected to be at the heart of its vision – through early diagnosis, long-term condition management, and new neighbourhood-based models of care. But without the necessary support, this is simply not deliverable.

General practice is already at breaking point, and the current workforce crisis, rising workload, and lack of infrastructure investment are major risks to patient care. We are concerned that the Plan does not offer the support we need to deliver the ambitions it sets out.

That is why I am writing to you today. As a constituency GP, I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you – either during recess or on a Friday in the constituency – to share local experiences and discuss how we can work together to ensure general practice is supported in this new era of the NHS.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
